Benefits of CBD Oil for Autism

Benefits of CBD Oil for Autism

Autism is a developmental disorder that impairs communication and social interaction. It’s been estimated that up to 1 out of every 88 children in the United States has autism. The cause of autism is unknown, but current research suggests that it’s likely caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. While there is currently no cure for autism, treatments available can help improve symptoms. One such treatment is CBD oil.

Autism Spectrum Disorder and CBD Oil: An Overviewa

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. While there is no cure for ASD, research has shown that using Cannabidiol (CBD) oil can improve symptoms in some individuals.

CBD, a compound found in cannabis plants, works by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which regulates vital functions such as sleep and mood. In studies, individuals with ASD who were given CBD oil showed improved behavior, communication, and social interaction.

However, it is essential to note that results may vary from person to person, and more research is needed before recommending the widespread use of CBD oil for ASD treatment. It is also essential to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new medical treatment. With further study, CBD oil may offer hope for individuals living with the challenges of ASD.

The Benefits of CBD Oil for Autism

While still being heavily researched, studies have shown that CBD oil may provide benefits for individuals with autism.

  • First, it has been found to help improve behavior and communication skills. One study found that after only seven weeks of treatment, tantrums and aggression significantly decreased in children with autism who were given CBD oil.
  • CBD oil may aid in reducing anxiety and increasing relaxation for individuals with autism. In a study of 60 autistic teenagers and adults, 79% of the participants experienced reduced pressure after taking CBD oil for one month.
  • CBD oil has also been shown to improve sleep quality in individuals with autism. One research review reported that out of 13 studies on the effects of cannabis-related products on sleep in neurodiverse populations, 11 showed improvements in sleep outcomes.
  • Lastly, CBD oil may help to decrease sensory sensitivities and ease sensory overload for those with autism. While more research is needed, the current evidence suggests that CBD oil may be a beneficial treatment option for individuals with autism.

The Science Behind Using CBD Oil to Treat Autism

Scientifically, there is evidence to support the use of CBD oil to treat autism.

The first evidence comes from studies showing that CBD oil interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is a complex network of receptors and chemicals that helps regulate various functions in the body, such as sleep, mood, and memory.

CBD oil has been shown to interact with two receptors in the ECS, CB1 and CB2. Research suggests that by interacting with these receptors, CBD oil may help to reduce anxiety and improve communication skills.

Another piece of evidence comes from a study examining the effect of CBD oil on autistic teenagers and adults. The study found that after one month of treatment, participants experienced a decrease in anxiety levels.

Lastly, a review of existing research found that CBD oil may improve sleep quality in individuals with autism. The review looked at 13 studies on the effects of cannabis-related products on sleep in neurodiverse populations and found that 11 of the studies showed improvements in sleep outcomes.

While more research is needed, the current evidence suggests that CBD oil may be a beneficial treatment option for autism spectrum disorder.
